Meet Our Athletes

Our athletes come from wildly diverse backgrounds and have equally diverse plans and goals for the upcoming season. The common thread that ties them all together is the way in which they engage with their respective communities and give back to the cycling community at large.

GENERAL BIO

  • Whitney Allison has been racing road professionally since 2013. In 2018, mere days before Colorado Classic, she was hit by a driver of an Airstream from behind. The impact of the hit, and the ugly insurance process to ensue, drove her to redefine her career for herself under her own brand, Bike Sports. After her team Hagens Berman Supermint folded in 2019, she planned to transition to gravel in 2020. 2021 saw her on the podium in five of the seven races she entered, and three of them wins. 2022 carried a similar momentum, showcasing her as a consistent, powerful rider. Results include events like 1st BWR Utah twice, 4th Unbound twice, and 2nd and 4th and SBTGRVL. For Whitney, the limit pushing and what-ifs fuel her in this space.

Outside of bike racing, Whit utilizes her experience and talents to help people stay on bikes. She co-runs FoCo Fondo, a 8th year gravel cycling event in Fort Collins, Colorado. In addition she co-managed Bike Sports, which in addition to running the racing program, has a bike fit studio, runs several gravel-curious style camps, a free route website, and Bike Sports TV. Since 2021, she also serves on the Bicycle Advisory Committee for the City of Fort Collins.

FUN FACTS

  • Favorite ride you've ever done:
  • In 2017, my team Colavita-Bianchi was spending a week riding in Limoux, France before hitting up a few spring classes. We did a training ride through the Gorges De Galamus that was jaw-dropping…and a little scary with the ledges.
  •
  • What got you into cycling:
  • As a high school soccer player burnout, I was looking for a new sport in college and thought triathlon would be fun. I ended up on a ride with the UT Austin collegiate team and although I was immediately dropped, one of the guys stayed back and rode with me. I was hooked and had the perfect introduction to road racing through collegiate cycling. Still have never done a triathlon.
  •
  • Craziest thing they’ve seen/done from your bike:
  • You know, I think just about any of these gravel races are pretty insane. Just the sheer energy requirements to complete one of these routes is a lot and then to full-gas race it is hard to comprehend, even though I do it multiple times a year. It makes me in awe of the human body.
  •
  • Favorite riding partner:
  • Probably Zack. He accuses me of half-wheeling all the time, even though his endurance zone is “so much higher”. We’ve been together for over a dozen years, it’s fine.
  •

Favorite post-ride meal:
Loads of seltzer water, a Fat Tire, and anything savory.

GENERAL BIO

  • Zack has defined what he does for a living as racing bikes for over a decade. He's raced for pro road teams to national track calendar events and full criterium seasons but living and training around Fort Collins Colorado, he was always riding and training on gravel. The transition to a full gravel program just made sense. Que, Bike Sports Co, and FoCo Fondo, a full blooded gravel racing program with himself and Whit Allison pushing the limits of how fast a gravel bike can go and promoting FoCo Fondo, a one day gravel race in Fort Collins. Today you'll find Zack going foot-out flat-out at every major mixed terrain race he can get to, or find him in late July in Fort Collins delivering the adventure race ride to you at FoCo Fondo.

FUN FACTS

  • Favorite ride you've ever done:
  • Yeesh, so many fun rides. There's a route we have from our door we like to call 200k of awesomeness. It's beautiful, climbing, technical descents, extremely remote, it has it all, sometimes it's my favourite ride, sometimes it's a death march.
  •
  • What got you into cycling:
  • My dad. He rode but not competitively. Growing up in DC, once I got on skinny tires riding around the local bike paths, I was instantly racing people that didn't know I was racing them. Jumped into Jr road racing in my early teens and the rest is history.
  •
  • Craziest thing they’ve seen/done from your bike:
  • I think the craziest thing I've seen/done from my bike is a full crit season at large. You normalize it when you're in the middle of it, but watching footage or looking back on how I survived is pretty crazy. Every night, sometimes 10 races in a row, battling it out from 75 minutes to 100k races with over a hundred other guys trying to win at all costs. The only thing close to that craziness is racing 200 miles of dirt roads with 3k other people equally as eager for you to fail. One thing is crazy for it's speed and danger, the other is crazy as proof of how far and fast your bike can carry you on any kind of terrain.
  •
  • Favorite riding partner:
  • I'm hesitant to say it out loud but probably Whitney. Our "endurance pace" overlaps a bit at the top and bottom or our zones but she's always down for an adventure.
  •
  • Favorite post-ride meal:
  • After the science food recovery, I'm a sucker for a fat meaty burrito and a Fat Tire.

FUN FACTS

    • Favorite ride you've ever done:
    • For my 31st birthday, I took 15 friends bikepacking in central Oregon. It was many of their first times and a trip I’ll never forget.
    •
    • What got you into cycling:
    • Freshly divorced in 2013, I was sick of commuting on the bus and looking for a change. Once I found the bike, I never looked back.
    •
    • Craziest thing they’ve seen/done from your bike: Launching myself off a ramp into a lake on a bike is hands down the craziest thing I’ve ever done! Or riding from Seattle to Portland!
    •
    Favorite riding partner:
  • My dear friend Caitlin - we have the best, most random shenanigans.

GENERAL BIO

    • Brooke Goudy is an athlete, bicycle advocate. She is the operational manager and owner of Rowdy Goudy, a health and wellness cycling organization dedicated to introducing cycling to women of color, and redefining what it means to participate in active living. Her love for biking extends to conservation and advocacy for trails, and serves as member of the board of directors for Boulder Mountainbike Alliance.

Representation matters and so does making long term policies and laws that break down barriers for marginalized communities to enjoy nature in any way that they see fit. Brooke serves on the Denver Mayor Advisory board, and is a member of the Denver Parks and Recreation Technical Advisory Committee. Having a seat at these tables allows her to identify the communities’ needs, and prioritize opportunities to support equity, inclusion, and diversity in outdoor adventure sports.

During the summer of 2021, she rode the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route and developed a love and enthusiasm for bikepacking, and continues to participate in long distance endurance challenges.

FUN FACTS

  • Favorite ride you've ever done:
  • GDMBR, I completed the route from Canada to Mexico. It was the most challenging ride I have done and the most fun.
  •
  • What got you into cycling:
  • Oh just your middle age white guy. I wanted him to love me as much as he loved his bikes, so I got on one and guess what- I dropped the guy and fell in love with the bike. Now I'm spending my time bringing all that bike love to my community.
  •
  • Craziest thing they’ve seen/done from your bike:
  • Top two craziest things I have ever seen is 1. A grizzly while biking in Montana 2. Last month I went to a mtn bike festival and rode some intermediate/ advanced mtn bike trails in Sedona. That is not so crazy. The crazy part was that I was with 8 Black women. It was a blast. It is the first time that I have ever rode at that level with all Black women. They really were kicking my ass and I enjoyed every minute of it.
  •
  • Favorite riding partner:
  • I'm always riding with folks, after all that is the business of Rowdy Goudy. I love every minute of it, but my absolute favorite person to ride with is my partner, Billy. He does not take me too seriously. We ride our bikes all over town- to the grocery store, to happy hour, or a commute to the local museum. Last month we rented a tandem and put our relationship to the test. Ha! Well we survived and are better communicators because of it. There is no one I would rather put in miles and smiles with than that guy.
  •
  • Favorite post-ride meal:
  • I love a veggie burger and fries. I hate to be so Colorado, but you add an IPA beer to that and I am in heaven.

FUN FACTS

    • Favorite ride you've ever done:
    • Cappadocia, Turkey. I won't forget the moody, dramatic weather. We were in a place rich in history and surrounded in predominant sandstone formations with natural berms everywhere. The combination of the riding and location created an overwhelmingly amazing feeling while ripping down the hill. I had a moment to myself where I couldn't believe I was actually there. I've had countless great rides, but something about that one burnt in my memory as such a stand-out moment.
    •
    • What got you into cycling:
    • in grade 8, mostly riding BMX around my neighbourhood and building sketchy dirt jumps. Around the same time I attained a cheap hardtail and joined the mountain bike club at my school. Mountain biking was quite popular in my community and I quickly got hooked. It was the first sport I felt quite strong at, giving me confidence and creative freedom like I had never experienced before.
    •
    • My craziest moment:
    • on a bike is my crash from Red Bull Rampage in 2013. I miscalculated a large step-down near the top of my line and hit the side of a wall, quickly tomahawking me off the bike. It wasn't the largest or most technical thing I've done, but close to it and definitely the most dangerous because I let excitement and nerves get in the way of making proper judgement. I'm lucky all that happened to me was a broken femur.
    •
    • Favourite riding partner:
    • Jordie Lunn, who sadly passed away in 2019, but he was also a huge inspiration to me and an amazing friend. Every ride was ridiculously fun and memorable. Today, I have a handful of friends around Vancouver Island who are my favorite riding partners.
    •
    Favorite post-ride meal:
  • Sushi is my favorite food to refuel with. Maki Rolls, miso-based soup, sashimi, etc. I love it all.

GENERAL BIO

Alexey grew up racing on the road after getting into the sport through kids triathlon and inspiration from his grandfather (Opa). After spending two years in the World Tour with Jumbo Visma, Alexey pivoted towards the dirt believing that the sponsorship model in professional cycling was flawed and that he could make a bigger impact where the barrier for entry was lower."
